Ian’s Walk for End of Life Care 2015

On his walk passing through Alberta, members of the Prairie Rose Hospice Palliative Care Society were able to meet Ian and help him find places to rest on his journey raising awareness for palliative care. It was truly an amazing experience to meet Ian, be a part of his campaign, and benefit from his support of local hospice care initiatives. Thanks, Ian!

From Ian’s Facebook Page for his walk:

My name is Ian Bos. On 16 January 2015, my father, Ted Bos, passed away after a brave fight with cancer. He was 68 years old. We had many ups and downs with the medical system; however, Ted was treated with the utmost compassion and dignity by the Aberdeen Palliative Care Society in New Glasgow, Nova Scotia.

With their assistance, we were able to keep Dad at home where he wanted to be with his family with the confidence that if we needed anything, they would be there. And they were there with us every step of the way.

On 21 May 2015, I started my cross-country walk in memory of my father and in honor of the excellent care that Ted received at the Aberdeen Palliative Care Society.

We exceeded our goal and raised $36,000+ for organizations such as the Aberdeen Palliative Care Society and many others. More importantly, we raised critical awareness for hospice palliative care across Canada and the people who dedicate themselves to providing people with quality of life and compassion. Donations are still be accepted and I always encourage you to support your local hospices and palliative care organizations www.ianswalk2015.ca Additionally, to support your local centres and national awareness, donations can be made by texting “hospice” to 20222 which to makes an automatic $10 donation.
You can continue to follow my progress on raising awareness, including my work with Give a Mile, who provide compassion flights free of charge.
